BOMA Toronto wins award for G20 educational material

(September 28, 2010, Toronto) BOMA Toronto has received a major national award for work undertaken to help prepare Toronto’s commercial real estate sector for the G20 Summit in June 2010.

The award was presented by the Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE) on Sept. 25, 2010 in Quebec City through its “Associations Make a Better Canada” program.  Accepting the award for BOMA Toronto was Chair of the Board of Directors, Randal Froebelius and President Chris Conway.  With over 2,600 members, CSAE represents the leaders in Canada’s not-for-profit community and recognizes exceptional leaders and projects in the sector.

BOMA won in the professional development and education category for conducting a G20 Preparedness Workshop and using the outcomes to produce a report for owners, property managers and suppliers to use in their Summit preparations. The report was produced within two weeks and distributed for free to the industry. It can be found at www.bomatoronto.org/pdfs/G20_Report_2010-04-04.pdf.

The project was spearheaded by BOMA Toronto’s Emergency Management Committee, with funding provided by suppliers and the technical expertise supplied by staff. The Report had over 15,000 hits on the BOMA Toronto website. The attendant media coverage on CTV and Global news and in the Toronto Star and the National Post newspapers (including on-line editions) complemented the educational mandate of the undertaking.

"This award recognizes the hard and excellent work of our volunteers in conducting the workshop and producing the report in such a short period of time," says Chair of the Board of Directors Randal Froebelius. "They delivered critical information to our industry.”
