Honourable Dwight Duncan to speak at opening of Canada’s first LEED certified church, located in Toronto

Friday, September 15th 2006 11:46:06am

The Ontario Minister of Energy will help celebrate the opening of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Canada’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified church, on Wednesday, September 20th at 1:30 pm.  LEED recognizes leading edge buildings that incorporate design, construction and operational practices that combine healthy, high-quality and high-performance advantages with reduced environmental impacts.

Peter Love will officially announce Greening Sacred Spaces, a program that offers faith communities a variety of ways to promote energy conservation.  The Greening Sacred Spaces program will be operated by Faith & the Common Good, and has received funding from the Ontario Power Authority’s Conservation Fund and the Toronto Atmospheric Fund.

Immediately after these announcements, Father Paul Cusack and Roberto Chiotti will conduct a tour of the new St. Gabriel’s Church and identify the ‘green’ features.
