Paragon Homes completes Midland area’s first energy efficient, ENERGY STAR® qualified home

Wednesday, October 4th 2006 9:03:24am

Announces that all new homes will be built to ENERGY STAR qualification with R2000 option

(Wyevale, ON, October 4, 2006)  Paragon Homes is the first homebuilder in the Midland area to build an ENERGY STAR qualified home.  Located in Wyevale, this home will save 40 percent on energy bills, reduce electricity consumption by 1000 kWh and save approximately $1000 a year on total energy costs, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 3 tonnes a year.

In addition to building the first ENERGY STAR qualified home in the area, Paragon is announcing that all of their homes will be built to this high standard, with the option of R2000 qualification.  R2000 provides additional environmentally friendly features, such as non-toxic paints, varnishes and floor finishes, low-emission cabinetry and water-saving toilets, showers and faucets.

“Building all of our homes to ENERGY STAR qualification and offering additional environmental features makes a lot of sense,” says Ray Millar of Paragon Homes.  “This is a smart move because it leads to higher resale values by saving homeowners money, creating a healthier home, and reducing maintenance.”

Paragon has met the rigorous ENERGY STAR guidelines through high quality, tight construction that prevents air leakage, in addition to upgraded insulation throughout, Low E Argon windows, a high efficiency furnace, heat recovery ventilator (HRV) and air conditioner, energy efficient lighting and a programmable thermostat.

“In light of volatile energy costs and climate change, energy efficiency is more important than ever,” says Corey McBurney, Managing Director of EnerQuality Corporation, which oversees the ENERGY STAR® for New Homes program in Ontario.  “I’m pleased that Paragon Homes is taking the lead in homebuilding by offering energy efficient, healthy homes.”

The 3200 sq. ft., 4 bedroom home also has water saving aerators, shower heads and fixtures, a rain water collection system, and is oriented to take advantage of passive solar gain, allowing the sun’s rays to naturally warm the house in the winter.

For such exceptional home construction and design, Paragon has received the Healthy Housing Recognition Award from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, recognizing achievements in the areas of occupant health and indoor air quality, resource efficiency, environmental responsibility and affordability.

Paragon’s second ENERGY STAR qualified home is currently under construction in their latest development, called West Ridge Estates, located in the Hamlet of Wyevale at Simcoe County Road 6 and Pricilla Street, just north of the 5th Conc. of Tiny Township.  For more information, call (705) 322-0055, or e-mail janemillar@rogers.com.
